Our Story

About AAKe

A professional home for anthropologists and allied professionals — advancing anthropology as a science and profession in Kenya.

History

From idea to national body

The idea is born

The idea of a national association is conceived during the Pan African Anthropological Association meeting held in Nairobi.

Who we are

AAKe is the pioneer body bringing anthropologists and professionals in anthropological work under one umbrella in Kenya. Our members practise and study anthropology across a wide range of sectors and disciplines.

They work in administration, research, communication, law and advocacy, academic institutions and community-based organisations — spanning the public, private and non-governmental sectors.

We value diversity and inclusivity as we build an association that is robust and responsive to the advancement of human welfare regionally and beyond.
